In 1930s El Paso, Texas, when a timid Swedish maid and a strong-willed Mexican American maid develop an unexpected friendship, tension arises between them as the Swedish maid finds a mentor in her household but the Mexican-American maid is fired by her bosses for her assertiveness and fighting off sexual advances. The Mexican American maid becomes active in a fledgling Maids Union until she faces deportation and despairs. Her Swedish friend finds strength she never knew she had and takes steps to save her friend from deportation.

LA CURANDERA CUMBIAMBERA, 22min., USA, Animation Directed by Ivan Flores “La Curandera Cumbiambera” is a science fiction animation similar to ‘Heavy Metal’ or ‘Akira’ that tells the story of a dying Earth ruled by a mutant dictator and his quest to conquer new worlds. A small group of animals band together to fight back and summon the ancient healers for help in battle.

TRIALS AND TRIBULATIONS, 16min., Drama/Animation Directed by Nathan Morse Former foster care youth Darroll Reed is asked by his mentor Ted to return to Journey House, a group home for teenage boys, and help locate a runaway at-risk youth.

Directed by Javier Briones Las Muralistas: Our Walls, Our Stories is a 25-minute documentary directed by Javier Briones and edited by Claudia Escobar, in partnership with SFMOMA. The film features women muralists whose works cover the walls of San Francisco’s Mission District. The muralism movement that emerged in the 1970s in the Mission District marked the beginning of a tradition of activism, expression, and community building through public art. Hear from artists Juana Alicia, Smokie Arce, Susan Cervantes, Elaine Chu, Priya Handa, Yolanda López, Consuelo Méndez, Irene Pérez, Patricia Rodriguez and more on their experiences, the impact of femmes in the movement and the effort to make space for future muralistas.
